4th Graders scientists

Its so exciting to see the faces of our 4th graders as they come to the science lab for the first time.  What a thrill it was for them to wear goggles and start to use different tools to make great observations.  The students were allowed to investigate erosion and weathering at four different inquiry stations.  We did not tell the students that they were learning "erosion" and "weathering."  That will be something they discover later.  So far, each student was able to work through two out of the four stations.  The stations were specifically designed so that there were no step by step instructions.  The students were given questions and materials.  They had to decide how to use the materials to address the questions.  They were a little surprised that they were allowed to be messy and loud while also being productive.  Students used their science journals to document Before and After pictures for each station.
